The Cambridge Half Marathon Was More than Double the Fun!

The Cambridge Half Marathon happened on Sunday, November 19th under rainy skies. At the start of the race, 7500 runners were registered, and CambridgeSide had pledged $25k from the proceeds to Cambridge Camping Association. We were so excited!

The rain didn’t dampen our spirits. Cambridge Camping Executive Director Sharon Zimmerman held the ribbon when the first male and female runners crossed the finish line. Then it was time to party!

Runners came pouring into the bright and shiny new CambridgeSide to dry off, stretch, and grab a well-earned snack. Rindge School of Technical Arts students were serving yummy frittatas and there were enough Insomnia cookies for folks to grab a fistful. The lines for Bloody Marys and Mimosas snaked around the mall! A jazz band that specialized in Frank Sinatra tunes had everybody tapping their toes.

Cambridge Camping staff were talking up the camp and letting runners know that a portion of their registration fee would go toward sending Cambridge kids to summer camp. When it comes to talking about our program and our campers we have a lot to say. Many of the runners we talked to were thrilled about the Cambridge Camping #camp4kids connection!

On behalf of the more than 400 under-resourced urban kids that benefit from Cambridge Camping Association programming… We thank the runners! We thank the organizers of the Cambridge Half Marathon! We thank CambridgeSide!
