Camp Glen Brook is an overnight camp in Marlborough, New Hampshire for girls and boys. The camp offers incredible outdoor experiences for children in 3rd - 8th grade. "At Camp Glen Brook, we weave traditional New England camping activities with the ideals of Waldorf education. Our co-ed, residential, summer camp seeks to inspire and empower children and teenagers to feel comfortable in the world, be involved in their communities and be good stewards of the earth."
Our summer staff is made up of amazing, thoughtful people that are ready to give back to their community (all while having a great time). Cambridge Camping is excited to announce that we are beginning the process of hiring for camp 2017. These positions are full time from the last week of June through August 4, the last day of camp. People who work at camp become mentors to great kids, make friends with other staffers, and gain great experience. A lot of our staff return year after year.
Berson Eliancy attends The Community Charter School of Cambridge near Kendall Square and became interested in interning with Cambridge Camping through his school’s internship program. He says, “After having an interview with executive director Sharon Zimmerman and program coordinator Lisa Owens and learning more about the mission of the association, I knew that this was the internship for me!”
Over 6,000 runners participated in the first ever Cambridge Half Marathon this November. How wonderful that the organization chosen to be a beneficiary of the race was Cambridge Camping in its mission to help kids from under-resourced circumstances get to summer camp. The hard work of the runners, the community, organizers and the generosity of Cambridgeside Galleria resulted in a $25,000 donation to Cambridge Camping!
This past Giving Tuesday (#givingtuesday) kicked off our Holiday Charity Challenge Campaign with a boom! With the help of our dedicated donors and supporters, we have already reached 15% of our holiday fundraising goals.
Well we just wrapped another great summer at CADC! We expanded programming to ensure that 96 campers would gain new skills, build strong relationships, and increase confidence in their own abilities. Focused around the theme, “The Earth and Its Neighbors,” CADC’s 2016 offerings included art, nature-based explorations of space concepts and structured STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities that promoted campers’ problem solving, collaboration, and executive functioning skills.
It’s been a busy week for our campers and staff here at CADC. From pools and beaches to farms and playgrounds, we’ve had plenty of adventures already. On camp here at Matignon High School, campers have enjoyed activities related to our theme: “Around the World in 25 Days.” At the end of last week, campers filled out passports with information about themselves and also wrote and drew pictures describing some of the adventures they had during the week. Starting this week, campers had a great time engaging in activities related to our current country: Brazil.
Now that the snow is starting to melt and the days are getting longer, it’s time to start thinking about SUMMER! If you’re like me, you’ve had quite enough of winter--the sub-zero windy days, back-wrenching snow storms, and seemingly endless searches for a parking spot. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Matt Kelsey. Since becoming the new director of CADC, I’ve had an extra skip in my step braving these frigid temperatures as I look forward to all of the fun ahead at camp this summer!
